HOW TO GET YOUR G1, G2 and G DRIVERS LICENCE IN ONTARIO
Have you ever wondered how the graduated drivers licencing system works in Ontario? Read on!
Ontario’s graduated licensing system lets new drivers get driving experience and skills gradually. The two-step licensing process takes at least 20 months to complete.
To apply for your licence, you must be at least 16 years old, pass a vision test and pass a test of your knowledge of the rules of the road and traffic signs. After you pass these tests, you will enter Level One and get a Class G1 licence.
You must pass two road tests to become fully licensed. Passing the first road test lets you move to Level Two (Class G2), and the second one gives you full Class G driving privileges.

You now have your G1 licence and can drive a car with restrictions!
You cannot progress to the next step until 12 months have passed
DID YOU KNOW? You can reduce this time by 4 MONTHS if you take an approved course, such as one of our Fanshawe Driving School Driving Courses.
Once completed, you can progress to the next step after just 8 months!
TAKE AND PASS THE G2 ROAD TEST
G2
You now have your G2 licence and can drive with fewer restrictions.
NOTE: You cannot progress to the next step until 12 months have passed.
